General Health

I shouldn't even have to list the benefits of staying healthy. They've been beaten into us many times, but the fact is most Americans are completely out of shape. Even those who aren't overweight still aren't very healthy. Our diet and exercise habits are terrible. We all know eating right and exercising will help us live longer and reduce the risk of diseases such as cancer and heart attacks, but did you know:

  • Active individuals are more likely to have a higher quality of life as they age.
  • Load bearing exercise (weight lifting) can reduce the risk of bone degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis and will keep tendons and ligaments stronger and healthier.
  • Not only will load bearing exercise NOT hurt joint structure, but it will actually help regenerate joint tissue.
  • There is no age where exercise cannot prove helpful. Studies have shown positive results in both very young children as well as seniors 80 and up.

Yep, that's right, even older individuals who have never picked up a weight before can show dramatic improvement with a properly designed, safe workout program.

Also, that old wives tale you've probably heard about weightlifting stunting a child's growth is just that, an old wives tale! It has been demonstrated that a properly supervised workout program can substantially improve the fitness of children and help them develop good habits that transfer into adulthood.
